Just by looking at the Aluminum GT Powerboard you can tell this thing is built to roam. E-Glide, makers of the GT Powerboard have been making electric transportation vehicles for the past 12 years. They pride themselves on making green, energy efficient products, which includes all-terrain electric skateboards. The company is situated in close proximity to an aerospace company and they claim that some of that super tech has rubbed off on their products. Let’s break down the GT Powerboard and see if they can back up that claim.
Well, chalk one up for E-Glide. The GT deck is the only one that I’ve ever come across to be constructed out of aluminum. It’s 45 inches long and 11 inches wide. The whole board’s weight can vary from 50-72 pounds depending on what kind of battery you choose, the H2A battery or the SLA battery. With that kind of luggage it wont be fun if your juice runs out and you have to carry around this hog.
Battery & Speed
The GT Powerboard’s battery takes about 4-5 hours to fully charge and can take you 15 Miles before it needs to recharge. The battery is a uniquely designed 36-volt Lithium Ion battery.
The GT’s max speed is a blistering 23Mph! For those that don’t know, that’s really fast! And get this – this monster has so much torque, it can go from 0-23 in5 seconds! This thing better come with foot straps. And you know what I always say right after I talk about speed: Please, for your own sake, at least wear a helmet. Splitting your melon open is not fun or cool, so ride safe! Anyway back to this lightning bolt on wheels. An 800W motor powers the GT Powerboard, making it one of the fastest boards available on the market.
The 9 inch Kenda pneumatic tyres on the GT are built for off-road adventuring. These tyres are extremely versatile, allowing the GT to handle pretty much any type of surface, from asphalt to mud to sand. The trucks on the deck are also specially built for this pneumatic equipped e-board. The bushings act as shock absorbers and make the ride much smoother.
E-Glide is the only company so far that I’ve noticed that recommends and requires a wired controller. Their reasons are legitimate – There’s no delay in the signal from remote to board, No signal interference that you might get from a Bluetooth or RF remote, A better throttle feel of precision, Less wear and tear / better component protection, and it makes the boards easier to service if any issues arise. While I may agree with their reasons, and they might make all the sense in the world, I have to admit that I still prefer wireless remotes. They’re just way cooler. Come on E-Glide. It’s the 21st Century.
The GT Powerboard comes with a 1 year warranty on electronics and a6 month warranty on the board and parts.
The Bottom Line
If you’re not the average newb skater and want to skate wherever you damn well please, then the Aluminum GT Powerboard is for you. The board is superbly constructed using top of the line parts and electronic components. This makes it remarkably durable which is what you want for an off-road boards. Not to mention it is in the top 10 list of fastest electric skateboards on the market. However, be willing to empty your wallet for this badboy because quality this good comes at a price. But that remote though…
